Green initiatives and commitment to sustainability earn PeoplesBank recognition from Hampshire County voters.

HOLYOKE, MA (July 28, 2017) – Voters throughout Hampshire County have recognized PeoplesBank’s environmental sustainability leadership, voting the bank Best Local Green Business for the fourth year in a row in the 2017 Daily Hampshire Gazette Readers Choice poll.

PeoplesBank puts its green values to work throughout the year through its charitable donations, volunteerism, and the financing of sustainable energy. The bank has been recognized for its support of green energy and construction of three LEED® certified offices.

This past Earth Day, PeoplesBank issued an Annual Green Report that highlighted $65,000 in recent support for green community projects in Western Massachusetts. Funds were used for green construction, education, and agriculture. Also, the bank distributed free tomato plants and seeds to the public and held a free e-recycling event.

To date, PeoplesBank has financed close to $126 million in green energy financing, including wind, hydroelectric, and solar energy projects. Each year, the bank holds free e-recycling events, through which it has collected more than 100,000 pounds of recycled material.
