HOLYOKE, MA (December 8, 2015) – With the rollout of Apple Pay well underway since October of this year, PeoplesBank was again the first community bank to market with another banking technology for its customers.
“We have a long tradition of researching and launching new innovations for our customers,” noted Sheila King-Goodwin, Senior Vice President, Retail Banking at PeoplesBank. “LEED® certified offices, mobile banking apps and now Apple Pay for our Visa debit card are all technologies that we were first or among the first to market with.”
Several years ago, PeoplesBank began working on the concept of a Customer Innovation Lab (CIL), where new technologies could be researched, tested and introduced more quickly. Staffed by a vice president of Emerging Technologies, a data scientist and a team of volunteer Tech Titans, the CIL became a reality in early 2015 and has since been busy working on the launch of Apple Pay and other new banking innovations.
Inside the Customer Innovation Lab, our
team of Tech Titans research and analyze
new technologies, like Apple Pay, in order
to meet the changing needs of our customers.
Once installed, Apple Pay offers consumers a way to pay for purchases using stored debit card information that is transmitted to a store’s reader, which is installed near a point of sale terminal. It can also be used when shopping in partner apps. In both cases, consumers do not have to enter payment or shipping information as such data is securely contained within the Apple Pay system. Apple Pay transactions are authorized with TouchID™ thumbprint security or your passcode, and transactions never use your card number.
