PeoplesBank Puts Mobile Farmers’ Market on the Road

HOLYOKE, MA (May 7, 2015) – When the Go Fresh Mobile Farmers’ Market vehicle became immobilized at the end of the last season, PeoplesBank stepped in with a $10,000 donation to renovate a new delivery vehicle that was donated by the PVTA. An announcement at Springfield City Hall showcased the plans for the new vehicle and food distribution plans for 2015.
“PeoplesBank has a strong commitment to the environment, which we usually describe by the three LEED® certified offices we have built and the more than $70 million in sustainable energy projects we have financed,” stated Sheila King-Goodwin, Senior Vice President, Retail Banking at PeoplesBank. “We are happy to support the Go Fresh Mobile Farmers’ Market, because it gives us the ability to literally put our green values on the road.”
The Mobile Farmers’ Market distributes food from local sources, including Enterprise Farm in Whately. It is a local effort coordinated by the non-profit organization Live Well Springfield to address food access issues within the city. The project expands access to fresh, local, affordable produce by bringing it to the communities that lack access to such important health resources.
At each stop, the Mobile Farmers’ Market offers food storage tips, recipes, food demos throughout the season, opportunities to talk to a nutritionist, and bags for carrying home purchased produce. It also collects recipes to post and share.
