PeoplesBank Puts Green Values into Action for Earth Day 2015
Earth Day week to be celebrated with e-Recycling events around the Pioneer Valley and LEED® Gold certification for Northampton office.
HOLYOKE, MA (April 15, 2015) – PeoplesBank intends to expand Earth Day into almost a full week of green events. The bank has a long track record of environmental sustainability and, in fact, regards being green a core organizational value. For years, PeoplesBank has financed millions of dollars in green energy projects, planted trees and cleaned up parks, built green offices, and even supported the construction of a greenhouse so elementary students could learn to grow their own food.
“Green values are just one more way we, as the leading community bank in this market, can make a difference and focus on the possible,” stated Douglas A. Bowen, President and CEO of PeoplesBank. “We want to be green as a business and help foster environmental sustainability in the community as well.”
On April 20, PeoplesBank will hold a special ceremony to announce that the Northampton office has achieved LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The bank will also host a meeting of the USGBC Massachusetts West Branch Chapter, which is made up of building professionals interested in green construction. The Northampton office is the third LEED certified PeoplesBank branch – the other two being the bank’s LEED Gold office in West Springfield and its LEED Silver office on St. James Avenue in Springfield.
On April 21–23, each PeoplesBank LEED certified office in the Pioneer Valley will host free e-recycling days:
- April 21 – 1051 St. James Avenue, Springfield, 4–6 p.m.
- Postponed due to inclement weather: April 22 (Earth Day) – 300 King Street, Northampton, 4–6 p.m.
- April 23 – 547 Memorial Avenue, West Springfield, 4–6 p.m.
- April 27 – 300 King Street, Northampton, 4–6 p.m. (Rescheduled from 4/22)
All visitors will receive a free flowering plant.
On Earth Day, April 22, PeoplesBank will host a “Green Tips” contest on social media. The public is invited to post a green tip on the bank’s Facebook page or tweet their tip to @bankatpeoples on April 22 for a chance to win an Earth Friendly Landscaping Improvement Project gift card worth $1,300.
