BankNews Honors Bank with Green Leaf Award
HOLYOKE, MA (January 9, 2014) – PeoplesBank punctuated the year’s end with their second sustainability award of 2013. BankNews Magazine, a monthly print and online publication that serves community bank management teams, awarded PeoplesBank first place in their annual BankNews 2013 Green Leaf Award competition [Please see Page 24].
The Green Leaf Award honors a community bank for outstanding accomplishments in helping the environment. Both internal operations and facilities are taken into consideration by the Green Leaf Award judges, as well as efforts related to customers and the community. Specific achievements include LEED-certification, eco-friendly operation policies, paperless technologies, green lending programs, and financial contributions to and active participation in environmentally oriented organizations.
The award recognizes PeoplesBank’s niche expertise in creating financing packages for green energy power generation, including the financing of over $70 million in wind, solar and hydroelectric power generation projects [TUMBLR]. BankNews Magazine also cited the bank’s extensive energy-saving business methods practiced at each branch. Each PeoplesBank LEED-registered building is highly energy efficient and minimizes the impact on the environment through the use of recycled and locally sourced materials where possible.
